This year, the ADL Group has celebrated the 5^th anniversary of the ADL Pricelist, the most accurate diamond price list on the Antwerp diamond market. This celebration marks the perfect occasion to have a look at how it all started and how the list has evolved since then. The list was printed for the very first time in response to general demand from Antwerp diamond traders. The thriving port city of Antwerp, which is after all the world diamond centre, was crying out for an accurate price list which could be used in a transparent manner. In the past the absence of such a list had shed a veil of secrecy over the global diamond industry.

Since the list’s inception five years ago, much has changed. You will have noticed that we made some changes in order to even better serve the market by making the ADL Pricelist easier to use. For this reason we started publishing the actual values, instead of putting the prices in Hundreds of US$ (x 100). This enables more detailed calculations and a stronger negotiation position when discussing diamond prices. Furthermore ADL has added several size categories which allow you to have the most precise and up-to-date prices for any given stone size.

ADL Pricelist is constructed in the same way as other existing reference price sheets. However, the major difference is that ADL publishes real, accurate prices in which a uniform price margin has been calculated. ADL does not subscribe to the principle of deducing different percentages in order to obtain the ‘correct’ price for each article.

World diamond capital, Antwerp is at the heart of the global diamond pricing mechanism, not only for rough but also for polished diamonds. More than 80 percent of all rough diamonds pass through Antwerp before being sent to all four corners of the world. There is tremendous competition between local manufacturers, traders and foreign producers. It is only logical that prices are the most competitive in Antwerp.

ADL Pricelist reflects mid rates on the Antwerp wholesale market. By constantly monitoring the market and maintaining direct contact with a representative number of diamond traders and manufacturers, ADL is in the unique position to offer transparent and independent price information. Although, listed prices are as accurate as possible, actual prices may be influenced by various factors such as profit margins, credit terms, expenses, and client relationships. ADL Pricelist’s aim is not to set transaction prices but to serve, above all, as a starting point for negotiations between buyer and seller.
